A Coordinated Effort

By Jan Raley

Christine’s latest fabric collection really inspired me to get sewing.  I just HAD to have some of those wonderful prints and solids in my closet.

My first inspiration was to finally sew up some reversible garments that are so often featured in travel catalogs.  You basically need just one print and a coordinating solid.  I chose Beach Glass 894 and solid black  ITY 671 to make a reversible top, skirt and jacket.  But the Red Bamboo B765 and the Teal Viscose AK753 looked so beautiful with the Beach Glass that I kept on going.  Any of Christine’s prints with one or two solids would work.

I wanted the look of a red dress, but the versatility of a top and skirt, so I decided on the separates.   To expand my options I decided to make that skirt reversible to black, too.

I had been holding onto an inspiration photo for years that showed color blocking on the sleeves of  raglan top.  The teal and black were the perfect colors to finally execute that idea and I used the same proportions for color blocking on the skirt.

So now, with these 7 garments, I have almost endless options to mix and match.  All I need to do is add some black pants from one of Christine’s patterns and I can go anywhere, dressed up or down.
