Dual Wear Drape Front Cardigan
Alteration to Bell Sleeve Wrap #1219
You can make this double threat using the Bell Sleeve Wrap pattern #1219. The fabric is from the 2011 Transition to Fall Fabric Collection, Late July grouping: Weaving in Purple, Black & Gray #SK899, a light sweater knit Poly/LYCRA blend. You will use the bodice front, back and sleeve pieces.

The front pattern piece was altered as seen to the left. We simply extended the neckline and the hem until the lines met at a point.

A mitered corner gives the garment crisp points. Follow these instructions to create the new pattern corner.

First, it was determined that the hems would be ½ inch. Fold up the bottom hem ½ inch.
Fold up the neckline edge ½ inch.

Find the point where these two folds intersect and create a crease.

Mark this crease, then measure out a ¼ inch from this marking. That will be the seam allowance for the new mitered corner.

Cut away the corner after the new seam allowance has been established.

Unfold the pattern, and view the new point. While edge serging the neckline and hem, stop at the end of the red lines. You do not want to add bulk into the corner with serging stitches.
When sewing, fold right side to right side and use ¼ inch seam allowance.
Now that you have your new mitered pattern corner, layout and cut 2 fronts 1 back on the fold and 2 sleeves. This cardigan is not self lined like the original pattern.
Construct as most of Christine’s patterns, joining the shoulder seams, attaching the sleeves, then completing the underarm sleeve seam and side seams at the same time.
Edge serge the neckline and hem up to the points mentioned above an also the ends of the sleeves.
Sew the mitered corner at the ¼ inch discussed. Turn to right side and press.
Press up the neckline, bottom, and sleeve hems.
Single needle stitch hems stretching slightly around the front bottom neckline and hem so stitches have some give to them if wearing in the tied fashion.
Make this and send us those pics!!!
