A Sneak Peek: Spring Prints!

Here is a peek at a few new 2011 Christine Jonson Spring Fabrics. The rest are coming very soon, but the meantime enjoy this little teaser of what’s to come.

The shirt pictured on the left is pattern #723 Straight Shirt.  This pattern out of the envelope is fingertip length, has straight side seams, and fairly deep-cut drop shoulder. A shirt/jacket would describe it best. My original thought was to use this piece as a jacket; I even cut out pockets to add. But, when I looked at the cut out fabric pattern pieces I saw a close fitting shirt instead! I thought it was worth a try!

I am very happy with the results!  Fabric #808 Safari is a perfect choice based on the its stretch and stability , the print and the soft drape.croptaper.JPG I chose the smaller of two sizes closest to my bust and hip measurement and sewed the shoulder seams, the collar, interfaced the center front self-facing, and serged in the sleeves. I tried it on and pinned the center front closed. I pinned the side seams closely with lots of curve at the waist and hip. I brought up the underarm seams quite a bit. This pattern already has a narrow fit from the elbow to the wrist, so no alteration was needed. When I was happy with the fit of the side seams and underarm I decided on the length. After I serged off the excess side seam allowance and shortened the length I took the picture at the right to show you how much I pinned out. It is a super-fast, super-easy shirt to make. I already have another one cut out!

Our V-Neck Tee #714 on the right gets a modern twist in  fabric #806 Blue Spots.  Try a  zig-zag stitch down the front stitching line to give some stretch to the center front. The innovative pattern design and construction techniques helps you make this top in about 45 minutes cut to finish. I love the neckline, princess lines and split wrist detail.

Be bold with this vivid zebra print fabric #807 Rio Red.  Every time I make a Princess Wrap Top I am reminded why it is such a popular pattern.  Not only does it sew together very well but it is done before you know it, and it offers a great fit. I did not make any changes to the pattern.

I paired these tops with the Taper Pant (#824), Wide Leg Pant (#824) and Flare Leg Pant (#1010) patterns.

Pictured  in order from left to right are fabrics #809 Zebra, #810 Blue & Gray Palmetto, and #811 Orange Creamsicle.
