Top 4 Giftable and EASY knit fabric sewing patterns for 2016 (including FREE sewing patterns)

You’ve suddenly realized that the holidays have once again snuck right up on you! All those holiday sewing projects you’ve planned loom ahead of you like big hurdles, interspersed with essentials like tree trimming and work parties.

Don’t worry! Here are our top four – perfect for your mom, your daughter, your BFF, your sister, your sister-in-law and even your mother in law, all from the Christine Jonson Patterns easy-to-sew pattern line:

1)    Drape front “waterfall” cardigan jacket

2)    Cozy ruana poncho

3)    Stretchy ruched knit pencil skirt

4)    Infinity scarf

The Drape Jacket is so super easy, it doesn’t even require ANY hem finishes! It relies on stretch knit for cozy scrunchable long sleeves and uses a clever front dart to ensure the drape neckline drapes perfectly. The Drape Front Jacket goes over yoga outfits – whether you’re coming back from your practice or simply going casual. It also goes over jeans, slim pencil skirts and slim pants to work. The Drape Front Vest version is divine in a heavier sweater knit or boucle to keep your mom cozy all winter. With two sizes (1 and 2) and the option to make it bigger by extending the pattern at the side seam, this is an easy fitting garment that everyone from your MIL to your BFF loves to wear.

From Left to Right: Ruana (Travel Trio Three Sewing pattern), Ruched Pencil Skirt (free downloadable pattern), Drape Front Jacket and DIY Free Infinity Twist Scarf from knit fabrics

Cozy Ruana Poncho

Truly one size fits everyone, the ruana poncho  from Travel Trio Three can be worn open like a poncho, wrapped around like a ruana or cape. If you’re really short on time, you can CUT these out of anti-pill polarfleece and cut in some fringe on the ends and have a wrapped up gift in under fifteen minutes. Of course fleece is one option, but so is decadent cashmere with sewn-on silk fringe or even double-sided stretch velvet (black and a deep aubergine are gorgeous.) You can even go without hems on wool plaids, by stitching 1” inside all the edges with a zigzag stitch, and then pulling threads out to create fringe, blanket-scarf style.

Stretchy ruched pencil skirt

This FREE pattern is soft and comfortable and fits everyone from XS to XXL. It’s a double layered skirt with ruched panels, a stretch fabric “yoga” style waistband and comes in two lengths, above the knee or mid calf. The best part? This skirt pattern is completely FREE! Yep, gratis, yours because we love you and we want you to love sewing.

Mobius Twist  knit infinity scarves

Of course, accessories are always in style, and everyone loves a new scarf. Use knit fabrics to create gorgeous and comfy infinity scarves with our FREE tutorial for a Mobius twist infinity scarf. You can use leftovers from other knit fabric sewing projects to make these scarves, too (including the leftover fleece from those ruanas you have made!)
