Travel Trio Three Skirt

Sewing pattern for knit skirts - Sewn By Ginger Cato

Christine Jonson Patterns sewing friend Ginger Cato sewed these two versions of the Travel Trio Three A-line skirt. Ginger shortened these skirts by 12” to end them at the knee. She used the pocket version of the skirt for both the black and the floral print.

Skirts work year round for casual, yet polished looks. The Travel Trio Three skirt is a fast project and is available in both a pocket version and without pockets. The pockets are deep enough to stash a mobile phone and your ID and credit card, so you can be effortless!

Let’s break down some great skirt options:

Summer chic:

Ginger pairs a bright print (lined in black) with a simple black tee (similar to the Christine Jonson Patterns Cowl Neck Tee) and sandals. This is a great outfit for a summer afternoon-to-evening and works well whether you’re chasing after little kids at the park, or headed out to an evening picnic with your beau. Ginger used the back pattern piece for both sides of the skirt, so it takes it from fast to ridiculously fast to sew! There are no pockets on this, just the one pattern piece, cut twice.

Casual:

Ginger has on the Christine Jonson Patterns Princess Wrap cap sleeve top in a bright coral with her black Travel Trio Three skirt. Another great summer look, this skirt is so versatile, it’ll stay in your current favorites the entire year.

Polished:

Ginger wears her black Travel Trio Three skirt with a modified version of the Travel Trio Three raglan tee. She’s color-blocked the tee, using black sleeves and a print front and back; this is a terrific way to use up smaller remnants of fabric you have from other projects.

It’s fast and easy!

This skirt will take you less than two hours from cracking open the pattern envelope to putting it on and jetting out the door, so you should definitely sew one up. With our long summer days right now, many of us are spending more time outside and less time in the sewing room, but you can easily complete this even after a late sunset stroll (or if you prefer to wake up to birdsong, before your family gets up, a few days in a row.)

This Travel Trio Three comes with the skirt (two versions), a raglan tee (shown above), a shirred turtleneck and a ruana which can be made from specialty knits (like sweater knit, or boucle) or doubled lycra knits or woven fabrics (sheer, wool) or even polarfleece solids or prints!
