Christine Jonson Patterns
Clothing Design Handbook
Recently updated, the Handbook is now a hefty 60 pages and includes sewing techniques for stretch fabrics, a stretch guide, pattern fitting information and tissue pattern measurements to help you choose a size more effectively, fabric recommendations, design tips, and lots more by Christine Jonson. Here are some examples of the tips that are offered in Christine's original Handbook: Tip #1When attaching interfaced facings serge with interfacing side up. The interfacing glides under the presser foot and feeds together with the underside better this way. When the non-interfaced side is up, the presser foot tends to push and stretch the fabric because of the slipperiness of the interfacing sliding on the underplate. Tip #2For best results when topstitching on Cotton/LYCRA fabric use a walking foot or a rolling foot attachment. This assures uniform stitch length. Tip #3Never topstitch to the very end of a seam. Stop 2 stitches away from the end of a seam or the needles will push the fabric out of shape. When backstitching ride in the same needle holes and lock the stitch sufficiently. The topstitch is only as strong as the backstitch. If the stitch is not locked tight the backstitch will pull out. |
