Ready-to-Wear Sizing: Most other patterns run large compared to their measurements. A 42" hip is usually a size 18. If your hips measure 42" and you cut an 18 pattern, the pants will generally be huge on you. I feel 42-inch hips are a size 14. I believe patterns and ready-to-wear garments should share sizing. Also, just because you have 42-inch hips does not mean you have a size 18 shoulders. I sized my patterns according to what I have experienced on real bodies! If your measurements equal a size 14, then a size 14 will fit you. Length should be the only alteration. I would like everyone who purchases one of my patterns to trust in my measurements-to-size ratio and follow my instructions just once and give me a chance to show you.
