Want to sew your own unlined, easy Boyfriend Blazer? It’s the perfect “third piece” over jeans, tees, slim skirts, skinny pants, even leggings!

We love the Boyfriend! And you’re going to love your Boyfriend too.

How it works:

1  Join the Christine Jonson Patterns Facebook Group for discussion and photo sharing (optional but very helpful)

2  Join the event in the pinned post to participate and see group posts or comment on our blog post here (scroll down to the bottom to see the comment section.)

3  Sew yours at home on your schedule, following along with videos that will be added to this blog post or LIVE on our Facebook page.

4  Post on the group with questions or progress photos.

5  Post your finished photos when done! You may also tag us with the sew along hashtag on Instagram #cjpatterns. We’ll share your makes on social media (with your permission) so that others can be inspired.

September 9th - 11th: Selecting the right fabrics and right size for your Christine Jonson Jackets

The Boyfriend Jacket can be made in a knit or woven fabric. Try ponte knit for a cardigan-feel in a jacket style. Try a boucle, a tropical weight wool plaid or pinstripe, a linen or linen blend woven, a heavier silk noil.

To match your Boyfriend to the contents of your closet (and your stash!) Download our mini wardrobe planner

The best choices for jacket fabrics are ones that have a bit of body, but still good drape. A fabric that holds it’s shape will also hold the shape of the jacket once sewn.

September 12th - 13th: Cutting out your Boyfriend Jacket

Jacket Part Three: Cutting, Serging Darts: http://www.cjpatterns.com/blog/2017/1/27/serging-darts-in-knit-tops-and-jackets?rq=jacket. Note, only the L and XL sizes contain a bust dart for shaping.

September 13th- 15th: Sew on your own - but don’t finish the hems or stitch down the facings!

We will continue the construction of the jacket in our next series of videos for the sew along’s second week. For those of you that want to move ahead of the videos during the sew along, follow the clear and detailed instructions included in the Boyfriend Jacket envelope (together with tips on the videos below.) But do not finish the hems or stitch down the facings. We will show you our clever “hotel bar pocket” in the front facings and also the optional lined patch pocket.
