Guide to Printing Pattern Downloads

Print at Home vs Copy Shop

NOTE: Some patterns are not available in all print options, please be sure to check if a pattern has the print options you want prior to purchase. (You can also reference the chart below for printing options.)
We have put together a guide to help cover the most frequently asked questions on printing pattern files.  We worked together with customers and print shops to get a better understanding of how we can spend more time sewing and less time on troubleshooting.
All patterns have instructions, sizing charts, layout diagrams and yardage charts just like a printed pattern envelope. Printing these is optional, many people prefer to view them in digital form for clearer pictures and zooming/text enlargement options.

Print at Home

Print at home format is exactly as it sounds, intended to print on paper sized for a standard home printer. The pages are then taped together.
The number of pages needed is listed in the chart below.
Important: When printing at home print just the page with the scale box (1” or 2”) for accuracy before printing all pages. Having this scale box correct is more important than the margins measuring exactly 3/8” margins on the printed pages.

U.S. Customers: Print at home patterns are designed to print on 8.5” x 11” letter sized paper.
International Customers: Patterns can also be printed on A4 as long as the printer margins are less than 13 mm. Be sure that “Fit to Page” is not selected and that page is centered. Check the scale box for accuracy before printing all pages.
NOTE: The page margins will not be uniform on the sides of A4 paper.

Copy Shop Printing

You can now order Copy Shop Prints directly from us! See each product page for details.

This file format is intended to be sent or taken to a printer.  The Copy Shop print size available for each pattern usually depends on the type of pattern (ie pant patterns too long for A0 size).

A0 or 36”x48”: This seems to be a more manageable size for local print shops and also a standard available size at online printers.
This option fits the pattern on A0 (33.1” x 46.8”), a standard paper size available outside the US. This size page can also be easily printed on U.S. standard size 36” x 48”. Some patterns may require you to tape 2 pages together.

Single Long Page on 36” Wide Paper: This format is not as easy to get a local print shop but does work better for larger/longer patterns such as pants. The length differs for each pattern but all are intended to print on a single length of 36” wide paper. Most of the patterns are a single page, with the exception of the Studio Collection Draped Vest & Jacket (each of the 2 sizes is a single page).
You will need to know the length of each pattern when sending it for printing (width is 36” for all). Many printers will have pre-sized paper options for printing, select the first length greater than the pattern length. (Do not choose a length shorter than the full pattern size.)

We have had positive reviews from customers on printing patterns at www.pdfplotting.com and recommend giving them a try if you have multiple patterns to print at the same time. Please see the example print size selections for each of the patterns below.
