Sewing knit elbow patches on a jacket or cardigan

Christine Jonson Patterns

Knit jackets and cardigans are wonderfully popular - including the "grandpa" cardigan and the waterfall or drape front jacket. A classic detail on a knit blazer, jacket or grandpa cardigan is the elbow patch. The twist on this elbow patch is using a contrast print and color for a fun detail. Check out the videos below for how to design, size, position, and apply an elbow patch in knit fabric for foolproof sewing.

This jacket/cardi is the Drape Front Jacket. It has raw edges and a clever trick to completely hide the thread tails once sewn. It's the easiest waterfall cardigan / jacket you'll make and it drapes perfectly every time using a clever front dart.
